The past month at Savory Elementary has been filled with energy, leadership, and wonderful moments of connection. It has been a joy to see our school community so engaged and enthusiastic. The upcoming month is very much looked forward too as well, as the days grow longer and we inch towards Spring and the new opportunities it brings.
Basketball season is off to a fantastic start! Both our girls’ and boys’ teams played their first games with great effort and sportsmanship, and intramural basketball has been going really well, giving many students the chance to play, practice skills, and have fun together.
Our Grade 5 students have truly stepped into leadership roles. They have been busy planning spirit days, helping serve lunches, and are preparing to begin leading our daily territorial acknowledgement. They have also been involved in meaningful literacy connections, visiting Spencer Middle School for Literacy Week and welcoming one of their classes to Savory to read alongside our students. These experiences have been enriching for everyone involved.
We also extend our hands in gratitude to Ren Louie and Grandma Clifton for spending time with our students, sharing Indigenous studies and drumming with our school. Their presence and teachings are deeply appreciated and meaningful to our learning community.
Looking ahead, there are many exciting events on the horizon. Our PAC has been working hard to organize some wonderful activities, including the Family Game Night on February 19, and we are grateful for their ongoing support and dedication to our school. We were also joined by BC Transit for the Bus Ready Program. Each class had the opportunity to explore a bus and learn about how the transit system works in our area.
Thank you, as always, for being such a supportive and engaged school community.
It’s a great time to be at Savory!
Warm regards,
Ceilidh Deichmann
